09 Geoffrey Bawa

Geoffrey Bawa (1919 - 2003) is one of Sri Lanka’s most notable and influential architects. Essentially creating what is known as Tropical Modernism, a style of architecture that is suited to hot, humid climate. Bawa combined Modernism and tradition to create spaces that were of their time and place. Through open-plan layouts, courtyards and landscaping, Bawa captured breeze and light, and created beautiful spaces that seemed to merge with the land.
